Prayer
Matthew 7:7
"Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."
Matthew 18:19
Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 21:22
And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith."
Mark 11:24
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
John 11:22
And even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you."
James 1:6
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
Prayer works!
Prayer is our communication with God by faith. He is faithful to hear us who cry out to Him. He will answer prayers prayed in His will and in the things He has already given opportunity for. In other words, praying what the word says about your heart's desires will in turn let them happen. Pray the Word!
Intercessory prayer is when we pray for the needs of others or about others situations. These God loves because they will remove your desires of the flesh from the asking process. God is faithful to perform His Word in our lives.
Praying in the Spirit or Tongues
Romans 8:26
And in the same way--by our faith --the Holy Spirit helps us with our daily problems and in our praying. For we don't even know what we should pray for, nor how to pray as we should; but the Holy Spirit prays for us with such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words.
1 Corinthians 14:2
For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 14:4
He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
This scripture speaks of both kinds of tongues 1)edifies the praying person 2) builds the church
1 Corinthians 14: 14-15
For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. What is the outcome then? I shall pray with the spirit and I shall pray with the mind also; I shall sing with the spirit and I shall sing with the mind also.
Jude 1:20
But you, dear friends, must build up your lives ever more strongly upon the foundation of our holy faith, learning to pray in the power and strength of the Holy Spirit.
If you have use of the gift of tongues it is for two uses; 1)building up or enabling oneself to pray 2) the building up of the Church. Pray with understanding in your heart even if you are praying in tongues. Ask the Lord for an understanding of your prayers in the spirit so that your mind is fruitful.
But in many situations, it is good even if you have the gift of tongues to pray in English so that others can be built up by your faith.
